2024 TAIPEI INTERNATIONAL DRAGON BOAT CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2024 Taipei International Dragon Boat Championships showcased a breathtaking blend of Taipei’s modern cityscape, riverside development, and rich tradition of dragon boat racing.

Upon landing at Taoyuan International Airport, media representatives, including LionhearTV, headed straight to Dajia Riverside Park to cover the event.

The championships took place from June 8 to June 10, 2024, at the picturesque Dajia Riverside Park in the Zhongshan District of Taipei City, merging cultural festivities with competitive sports.

The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as the Double Fifth Festival, is a significant holiday in Taiwan, celebrated with dragon boat races and the traditional eating of Zongzi. This year, the Taipei International Dragon Boat Championships featured a variety of engaging activities designed to celebrate and promote the ancient art of dragon boat racing. Attendees participated in helmsman training sessions, on-land rowing tank training, dragon boat training, traditional boat eye dotting, and river blessing ceremonies.

The championships attracted skilled teams of rowers from Taiwan and around the globe, all competing fiercely for glory on the waters of Taipei. This year’s event continued to enhance Taipei’s image through sports tourism, drawing visitors to experience the city’s vibrant culture and scenic beauty.

In a statement, the Taipei City government announced that this year’s total prize money reached a record $3.33 million New Taiwan dollars (approximately P5.9 million).

While there were no Philippine boat teams in Taipei this year, the Amateur Paddlers Philippines participated in 2023, highlighting the international appeal of the event.
