GLASTONBURY 2024: KASABIAN SPARK FESTIVAL CHAOS AS FANS SET TO MISS OUT ON SECRET SET

Kasabian surprised Glastonbury fans with their secret set this afternoon, yet caused chaos an hour before taking to the stage.

The indie rock band were not on the festival's official line up, yet made a surprise appearance in a blank spot on the Woodsies stage. They were given an hour-long slot on Saturday from 6pm till 7pm after making their announcement on X. Kasabian wrote: "It’s Happening! See you 6pm at Woodsies @‌glastonbury. They also shared a video of the band’s members in a car and, an image of Glastonbury Free Press saying: “It’s happening, 18.00 Saturday.”

It marked the band's first Glastonbury performance since the departure of frontman Tom Meighan in 2020. Fans were sent into that much of a frenzy to catch the band that the stage filled up a whole hour before they took to the stage. Festival bosses shut down all entrances to the Woodsies tent because of the sheer volume of people trying to watch the Leicester band.

Massive screens saying the area is closed are being beamed by the Pyramid Stage. Tom Meighan is absent from the band - despite him having playing a handful of festivals this summer. The former frontman was sacked after it emerged that he had assaulted his partner, Vikki Ager.

However, he recently played at the Isle of Wight this month and has also supported Noel Gallagher. His appearances at festivals after his conviction have been mired in controversy. Several acts pulled out of last year’s Be Reyt festival in Sheffield after he was included on the bill. Organisers defended his inclusion saying he had apologized and deserved a second chance.

Kasabian are now formed of vocalist Sergio Pizzorno, Tim Carter, bassist Chris Edwards and drummer Ian Matthews. Fans watching at home reacted to the secret set as one said: "Never seen Kasabian live. Would love to - lads have some bangers. Maybe one day. #glastonbury."

Another added: "That is very possibly an overfull tent for Kasabian at Glastonbury." Someone else commented: "So good to see #Kasabian now on the telly #glastonbury2024." A fourth declared: "kasabian deserve a bigger stage #glastonbury2024." A fan added: "Kasabian secret set at the Woodsies looking insaneee right from the off." Someone else wrote: "Kasabian are still brilliant and Serge is an awesome frontman #Glastonbury2024."

Kasabian were bookies favourites to make a surprise appearance at this year's Glastonbury. The band had previously headlined the iconic festival ten years ago. They had announced they'll be embarking on a tour next month which left many to believe that they could use Glastonbury as a warm-up before heading to Edinburgh on July 3. Last year, the Foo Fighters rocked up as a secret guest.
