Largest known object of its kind spotted in distant cosmos
For as long as humans have walked the Earth, the great endless sky and the countless stars that fill it have left us in a state of awe-inspired wonderment. Similarly, the study and exploration of space have been a priority for humankind for millennia. From the ancient Assyrians and Greeks, to the greatest minds of the Renaissance, and up to the billionaire space explorers of the 21st century, incredible amounts of time and effort have gone into better understanding our celestial surroundings. And our quest has just begun. Now in a groundbreaking discovery, astronomers have detected a gigantic radio jet in the far reaches of the universe, measuring twice the width of our Milky Way galaxy. This ancient phenomenon originated when the universe was less than 10% of its current 13.8-billion-year age, according to recent research. Anniek Gloudemans, the study’s lead author and a postdoctoral research fellow at the National Science Foundation’s NOIRLab, said, “This is the largest radio jet seen thus far in the early universe.” The discovery was made possible through the use of two state-of-the-art radio telescopes, which revealed the immense double-lobed jet stretching at least 200,000 light-years. This finding is shedding light on the formative period of the cosmos, helping scientists understand when the first jets emerged and how they influenced galaxy formation. Despite all of the great strides that have been made to understand the great beyond, it's estimated that 95% of the universe is still undiscovered. The safest places to travel to in 2025
Considering where to go on your next vacation? If safety is a top priority when traveling, then check out this list of the 23 safest countries in the world based on two separate studies. International SOS, a leading security and health risk services company, recently released its annual Risk Map 2025, which assesses global safety risks and predicts the safest countries for the coming year. Countries are categorized into five risk levels, ranging from insignificant to extreme. To provide a broader perspective, we’ve also compared this with the annual report from Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection (BHTP) on the safest countries in the world for 2025. BHTP evaluated the 42 most popular travel destinations, using insights from third-party sources and surveying American travelers about their experiences. The ranking incorporates data from the Global Peace Index, Numbeo, and GeoSure Global, analyzing factors such as crime rates, terrorism risks, healthcare systems, and overall traveler safety. Many of these countries made both lists. Click through the gallery to browse.
