(SPOT.ph) Cycling outdoors is great. It will take you places both literally and figuratively all  while you get fit. Not to mention the great community that grew around the exercise in the past few years. But with the commute and weather situation in the Philippines, cycling outside can pose many challenges—think going side-by-side with massive vehicles and head-to-head with motorcycle riders; enduring cats-and-dogs type of rain or scorching heat, the lack of a secure bike path, and all that. If you still want to give it a try minus the challenges of the outdoors, you can give indoor cycling a go. Yup, that’s a thing.

What is indoor cycling?

It's... well... cycling, but indoors. Surprise, surprise. Indoor cycling, also called spinning, is a low-impact workout, meaning less strain on your joints or muscles. But don’t let that fool you. It's meant to be a full-body-slash-cardio workout, so it’s best to consult with an instructor before diving in.

Indoor cycling studios have stationary bikes for you to use during the sessions—and trust us when we say this immobile thing will get you tons of places. One session can take you through different cycling: uphill climbs, bursts of speed, and short recovery periods with easy pedaling depending on the class. Most sessions are accompanied by head-hitting music and high-energy instructors acting like DJs, so expect a high-intensity workout disguised in a rave.

We round up indoor cycling studios in Metro Manila that will help you get settled and find a community that will feel like a second home. Make sure to arrive in your full workout gear (socks, gloves, and bike shoes are a must, but some gyms have their shoes and gloves for rent), and bring your water bottles and towels along for the wild rides!

Check out these indoor cycling studios in Metro Manila:
