THE BEST NON-FOODIE THINGS TO DO IN LONDON THIS MONTH

London Fashion Week

Fashion Week returns to the capital with all the glitz and glamour of a thousand runways, and alongside the beautiful models and the stunning clothes are a glut of events. Most of the major catwalks are invite-only, but there are a few of the smaller catwalks to RSVP to. Otherwise, check the schedule, as there's a host of bookable events, talks and even book launches over the week.

Annie Mac presents Before Midnight at Gunnersbury Park

Annie Mac hosts the latest edition of her Before Midnight event series, a big night out that happens during the day — getting revellers home, as the name suggests, at a more reasonable hour. As a leading voice in British music, Mac has spent a career championing under-represented artists and her supporting line-up of Melle Brown and DJ Paulette continue her brilliant work.

September 13, Gunnersbury Park, Popes Lane, W3 8LQ, visitgunnersbury.org

Van Gogh: Poets and Lovers

The National Gallery has dubbed this new exhibition a “once in a century” event, so it’s probably not one to miss. Works have been gathered from national and private collections in France, America and the National Gallery’s own vaults, bringing works like “Starry Night over the Rhone”, “Sunflowers” and “Wheatfield, with Cypresses” together for the first time. Immersive artistic digital experiences have their place, but this is the real deal.

From September 14, Trafalgar Square, WC2N 5DN, nationalgallery.org.uk

Giant London Flea

London’s largest indoor flea market returns to the Olympic Park with more than 100 vendors flogging the finest in antiques, homewares, vintage furniture, artworks and more. Open for just the day, this expansive indoor market is a behemoth — so to nab a bargain, it’s best to get there early.

September 15, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, E20 2ST, queenelizabetholympicpark.co.uk

Barrioke

Shaun Williamson, aka Barry from EastEnders, is a self-aware, self-deprecating good guy — and while the actor might be best known for his soap opera turn, his karaoke nights have become the stuff of legend. Silliness by the bucket load, guests have the chance to belt out classics with the big man himself. Forget Oasis tickets, the nostalgia value of this is through the roof.

September 20, Between the Bridges, The Queen's Walk, SE1, dice.fm

Turner Prize at Tate Britain

Pio Abad, Claudette Johnson MBE, Jasleen Kaur and Delaine Le Bas are the selected artists shortlisted for this year’s Turner Prize and they’ll be showcasing their work at Tate Britain from the end of this month. From the beguiling sculptural work of Jasleen Kaur to the striking figurative paintings by Claudette Johnson MBE, this is your only chance to see these captivating artist exhibit side-by-side.

September 25, Tate Britain, Millbank, SW1P 4RG, tate.org.uk
