HIGHER NAIA TERMINAL FEES MAY JACK UP AIRFARE IN 2025

(SPOT.ph) As they say, you get what you pay for. And so expect to pay some extra for your next flight at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) starting next year what with its plans to improve its terminals.

In a press conference Friday, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said terminal fees at NAIA may likely increase by 2025 following improvements to be implemented by the private consortium led by Ramon Ang’s San Miguel Corporation.

The consortium had bagged the P170.6-billion deal to rehabilitate the aging terminal complex and enhance its operational efficiency. It is set to take over NAIA in September 2024.

"Magkakaroon ng increase… kailangan namang ma-compensate natin ‘yung concessionaire doon sa investments na gagawin nila (There will be an increase… we have to compensate the concessionaire for their investments)," said Bautista.

The hike will be added to passengers’ overall airfare, said Bautista.

So how much is it?

Terminal fees at NAIA are currently at P200 for domestic flights and P550 for international flights. By next year, the DOTr proposes a P400 hike for international passengers, raising the total cost to P950.

Other costs charged to airlines, such as landing and takeoff charges and airplane parking fees, will also increase before the year closes, said the official.

The proposed NAIA fee hikes are still up for review by an interagency Cabinet committee.
