LA MESA ECOPARK WELCOMES FAMILIES BACK THIS JUNE!

Attention, parents: Get your calendars and mark the date June 29! Because one of the family-favorite pasyalans in Metro Manila is set to reopen by then.

La Mesa Ecopark, one of Quezon City's beloved green spaces is opening its doors once again to the public this month! It could be remembered that La Mesa Ecopark temporarily closed its doors in February amid changes in its management. Now, it is ready to welcome families back for a refreshing outdoor escape from the city hustle and bustle.

La Mesa Ecopark: Beloved Nature Pasyalan

La Mesa Ecopark is not your ordinary park in the city. It covers 33 hectares and also serves as a nature reserve. Before closing its doors to the public earlier this year, it offered visitors a variety of activities that every member of the family could enjoy. Back then, you can hike and explore nature trails, bike, dash through a zip-line, and more! There's definitely an activity for everyone.

As a nature reserve, the park is home to over 30 small animal species, 130 plant species, and 53 bird species, making it a perfect pasyalan for kids to learn about biodiversity, while also enjoying the outdoors.

Although for this early reopening, only the first phase of the park will be accessible, where visitors are invited to see a showcase of flora and fauna found in the city. The park’s management says this is to "urge all visitors to care for the environment and take climate action."

La Mesa Ecopark Embarks on a New Journey

La Mesa Ecopark’s reopening is particularly exciting as it coincides with the conclusion of Philippine Environment Month. Under the new stewardship of the Manila Water Foundation (MWF), the park is embarking on a "renewed journey as an environment hub to experience BiodiverCity: biodiversity in the city," the nature park announced on its new Facebook page.

The park's new management has also launched a new vibrant new logo with elements inspired by National Artist for Architecture Francisco T. Mañosa to honor his work in La Mesa Ecopark. The logo also showcases a majestic Rough-crested Malkoha, and the "main brand image evokes a sense of wonder and excitement for nature as if looking through a stained glass window."

La Mesa Ecopark has a rich history of being a go-to destination for outdoor activities and environmental education. It was previously maintained by the ABS-CBN Foundation for 25 years before being handed over to the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System's concessionaire, Manila Water, last February. The park last underwent significant renovation in 1999, led by the late environmentalist Gina Lopez.
