PH BAGS EIGHT TITLES IN THE ASIAN LEG OF WORLD TRAVEL AWARDS
(SPOT.ph) Here's a bit of good news to brighten your gloomy day: The Philippines just bagged eight titles in the recently concluded Asian leg of the World Travel Awards, cementing the Philippines' reputatio as a leading travel destination in the Asian region. Take this as your sign to explore more of our 7,641 islands and the different resorts and hotels our country has to offer. Here's what you need to know about the World Travel Awards 2024
On September 3, the Philippines hosted the 31st Asia and Oceania Regional Gala of the World Travel Awards where we bagged Asia’s Leading Dive Destination for the sixth year in a row since 2019.
The country also took home several new titles including Asia’s Leading Beach Destination and Asia’s Leading Island Destination.
Several spots in the country also got recognized as specialized destinations, with the walled city of Intramuros being named Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction, Boracay as Asia’s Leading Luxury Island Destination, and Cebu as Asia’s Leading Wedding Destination.
Additionally, the Department of Tourism's Love the Philippines campaign was also recognized as Asia’s Leading Marketing Campaign 2024.
In her speech during the ceremony, DOT Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said, "Tourism is not just a driving force for our economy. It is a force for good for our country. The sector has created millions of jobs for Filipinos and empowered our local communities. We are determined to expand tourism opportunities further by focusing on quality and sustainable tourism, ensuring that every visitor leaves with a deeper appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our nation."
Consequently, Secretary Frasco also received a special award recognizing the tourism chief for her transformational leadership in tourism. The award cites her "outstanding contributions to tourism governance" and "vision, tireless dedication, and the tangible impacts of her initiatives have set a new benchmark in tourism leadership, not just in the Philippines but across Asia and Oceania."
What are the World Travel Awards?
The World Travel Awards (WTA) is considered one of the most prestigious honors in the travel and hospitality space. Every year since 1993, the program recognizes excellence across various travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors.
Winners are determined through a year-long online voting campaign worldwide. The votes come from qualified executives working in travel and tourism, as well as consumer travel buyers.
Titles in the World Travel Awards are given out country-wide, region-wide, and globally. Although we've won at the regional level, the global stage awaits. After the World Travel Awards holds its series of regional gala ceremonies, all the regional winners from the different sectors will compete against each other in a Grand Final at the end of the year.
