MIAA ADVISES PUBLIC AGAINST FLYING DRONES NEAR NAIA

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) has reminded the public that flying drones within the 10-kilometer aerodrome radius of Ninoy Aquino International Airport is strictly prohibited.

The MIAA made the statement after it received reports of unauthorized drone activities near the airport.

“Operating drones within this restricted radius without proper authorization poses significant safety risks, including potential collisions with aircraft, which can result in severe damage and endanger lives,” said MIAA. “The MIAA advises all drone operators that they must be aware of and follow all relevant restrictions set by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).”

“Non-compliance with CAAP drone operation regulations may result in serious legal consequences, including substantial fines and imprisonment. To monitor and enforce these regulations, the MIAA works closely with local law enforcement and the CAAP,” it added.

The MIAA said that there were 10 recorded sightings of unlicensed drone operations in 2023 and four in the first quarter of 2024.

According to the CAAP, any violation in relation to the use of drones shall be penalized with a fine ranging from P20,000 to P100,000. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
