BRIT, 33, DROWNS WHILE DIVING AT GREEK SHIPWRECK 'DURING ROUGH SEAS'

  • The man was pulled out of the sea by a swimmer but could not be resuscitated

A British tourist has drowned while diving at a well-known shipwreck in Greece during 'rough seas', local media reports.

The man, 33, was swimming at the Epanomi Shipwreck in Thessaloniki when he reportedly got into difficulty.

He was pulled out of the sea by another swimmer as emergency services, including a lifeboat, rushed to the area.

Ambulance crews were unable to resuscitate the man on the beach and he died at the scene, Greek news site SL Press reports.

The deceased was taken to Hippocrates Hospital, where a postmortem is being carried out.

While the wreck is a popular diving spot, local media says it is usually avoided in bad weather.

Epanomi is a small town in the Thessaloniki region of northern Greece. The shipwreck beach is less than 20 miles away from Thessaloniki city.
