HSBC, in its own study, found that consumers across Asia are spending more on food, with restaurant and other food-related purchases ranking in the top three in seven out of eight markets. This is despite the recent upward trend in inflation. Demand for restaurants and other leisure products and services has risen by 10 percent, with Filipinos seeking to "make daily living more fun."

"What we’re doing right now [is] we’re really following the customers," Peter Faulhaber, head of wealth and personal banking at HSBC Philippines, said. "HSBC’s new lifestyle credit card, Live+, allows cardholders to enjoy delightful culinary experiences through a wide selection of restaurants, both here [in the Philippines] and overseas."

"[Filipino] consumers spend most at restaurants and on shopping for retail goods and apparel. This aligns with the lifestyle proposition of the HSBC Live+ card, so consumers can enjoy their dining experiences and [maximize] the rewards earned on these key categories," added Visa country manager Jeffrey Navarro.

What’s in the HSBC Live+ credit card for consumers?

Diners can enjoy a 15 percent discount at over 200 restaurants across Asia all year round. They can also get up to eight percent cash back each time they dine out or order in and pay with their credit card.

These are available in seven other markets besides the Philippines: Taiwan, Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and India. According to HSBC, it will soon expand to more countries, including South Korea, as Korean cuisine gains popularity in the country.

Here are the other benefits:

  • Shopping: 5 percent cash back at retail shops and department stores, as well as online marketplaces
  • Entertainment: 5 percent cash back on entertainment-related purchases, including cinema tickets and streaming platform subscriptions (Netflix, Disney+, and Spotify)

Residents who are 21 years old and up with an annual income of P500,000 are eligible to apply for the new credit card. Those interested may sign up online.
