BARCELONA BUS CRASH INJURES SIX AS VEHICLE PLOUGHS INTO HOTEL IN 'FRIGHTENING' INCIDENT

Six people have been injured after a bus smashed into a hotel near Barcelona.

One of the casualties has been described as “serious” following the drama yesterday evening. The accident also damaged a gas pipe at Calasanz Hotel in Molins de Rei around 15 miles north-west of the Catalan capital.

The cause of the accident, which occurred around 6.30pm, is still being investigated. Local reports said the bus had collided with another vehicle before it smashed into the front of the three-star hotel.

A hotel receptionist said those injured had been on the bus and all staff and guests were “okay.” She said: “It was pretty frightening but thankfully everyone at the hotel is okay and we are functioning today as normal. The damage to the front of the hotel turned out to be superficial.”

Firefighters were among the emergency responders that raced to the scene. Hotel guests were ordered to stay inside the building while they carried out checks on the gas pipe.

The most seriously injured of the casualties was taken to Barcelona’s Vall d’Hebron Hospital. Others with less serious injuries went to two other hospitals in the Catalan capital.
