PILGRIMS TO VISIT 10 JUBILEE CHURCHES IN RIZAL, MARIKINA

Around 300 parishioners from Barangay Marikina Heights will embark on a spiritual journey to 10 Pilgrim Churches under the Diocese of Antipolo in Rizal province and Marikina City on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2024.

The Jubilee Churches Pilgrimage 2025 is organized by the St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish of Marikina Heights as part of its celebration for the Jubillee Year.

"A Jubilee pilgrimage is a journey of conversion and transformation," said Fr. Rey Carvyn Ondap, parish priest of St. Gabriel of Our Lady Of Sorrows. "It involves prayer, liturgy and acts of charity."

The Catholic Church proclaims a Jubilee Year every 25 years. A Jubilee pilgrimage is a journey taken during a Jubilee Year, a period of special grace and forgiveness in the Catholic Church.

Under the theme "Pilgrims of Hope," the Catholic holy year of 2025 began on Christmas Eve in 2014 and will end on Epiphany in 2026.

"The main objective of the pilgrimage is not only to visit sacred sites but also to reflect on one's spiritual life, seek reconciliation, and renew one's commitment to faith," Fr. Ondap added.

Fourteen churches under the Diocese of Antipolo had been declared as Pilgrim Churches for the Jubillee Year.

Ten of these sacred places will be visited by the pilgrims from Barangay Marikina Heights starting with the Parish of Our Lady of Aranzazu in San Mateo, Rizal.

Next stop is Parish of St. Therese of the Child Jesus in Antipolo City followed by St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Jalajala, San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish in Tanay, St. Jerome Parish in Morong, Sta. Ursula Parish in Binangonan, Parish of St. Clement in Angono, Minor Basilica and Parish of St. John the Baptist in Taytay, International Shrine of Our Lady of Peace and Good Voyage in Antipolo City and Parish of Our Lady of the Abandoned in Marikina City, which is also under the Diocese of Antipolo.

The organizers said they worked tirelessly to ensure that all logistical arrangements, such as transportation, schedules and safety protocols are in place for the smooth execution of the pilgrimage.

"The one-day religious journey is expected to deepen the pilgrim's relationship with God and receive special blessings," the parish priest added.
