TWO PEOPLE AND DOG RESCUED AT HOLY ISLAND

Two people with a dog in a campervan had to be rescued after getting stuck in the rising tide on Holy Island causeway.

The Seahouses RNLI crew and the coastguard were called at 13:15 BST on Tuesday to the Northumberland passage to rescue the group after their vehicle was cut off.

The coastguard reached the group first and was able to get them to safety, the RNLI said.

The pair had attempted the crossing despite warning signs and safe crossing time displays, it added.

Visitors are warned that it is dangerous to cross the causeway between about 10:25 and 15:10.
