URBAN SPORTS FESTIVAL TO BE PILOTED IN FOLKESTONE
A street festival designed for teenagers is being piloted in Folkestone.
The Folke About Town pop-up will feature free skateboarding sessions, bike repairs as well as screen printing, zines and a Pokémon workshops.
The festival will be based between Sandgate Road and Guildhall Street from 15:00 BST on 6 September until early evening.
Councillor Rich Holgate said: "While I might not exactly be the target demographic, I absolutely know this is going to be a great event for younger people.”
The festival is part of a wider trial of attractions to the town produced by local businesses with support of Folkestone and Hythe District Council.
It follows the success of last month's Folkestone Food Festival.
The town will also host a cheese and charcuterie market on 19-22 September.
The teenage-focussed event will offer two beginner skating sessions from Scorcha Skate School, a tote bag printing class from Happy Skate as well as a youth-run market with live music.
The council said: "The town is acquiring a reputation for urban sports and active travel and it is hoped this event will encourage more locals and children to have a go at both skating and cycling."
