ENGLAND FAN'S TRIP TO GERMANY COST JUST 74P MORE THAN STAYING AT HOME

An England fan who flew out to Germany to watch the Euros spent just 74p more on getting his football fix than if he had stayed at home to see it on TV.

Callum Ryan took a Ryanair flight to Berlin from East Midlands Airport, costing just £32.95 - less than £1 more expensive than the £32.21 ticket to the fan zone at Box Park in Shoreditch, London.

The 23-year-old then made his way to the capital's city centre where he met his friend before taking in the sights of Berlin and doing some shopping.

Mr Ryan ended up in the city's fan zone and did not have to pay a single penny to enter on a day where there were four dramatic Euro 2024 matches - with all such arenas in Germany completely free throughout the tournament.

The fan park in the iconic Reichstag, just next to the nation's parliament building and in the shadow of the Brandenburg Gate.

While in the area, the online content creator from Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, paid just €8 (£6.78) for a hotdog and a beer. At Box Park, a hotdog costs £7.75 and a pint will set you back between £6 and £7.

Mr Ryan said: 'My plan was to be there for a day and experience the fan zone and the city.

'I bought a meal deal which cost me €8 for a hotdog and a bottle of beer, which I'm pretty sure is cheaper than a pint in London.

'My friend Louiz from Berlin showed me around all the different fan zones in the city. We also took the opportunity to do some shopping.'

Mr Ryan says the atmosphere at the German fan zone was good.

He said: 'The atmosphere was amazing. The people were all in good spirits and felt exactly like when we held the Euros back in 2020.

'People are there to watch the football. The food is good and the people are so nice and the vibes are good.'

Mr Ryan was able to take part in lots of activities in and around the fan zone - including food vans, bars and interactive games as well as a big screen showing the games.

He said: 'The idea of the video is to fly there for the same price as a fan zone experience in the UK.'
