CANLAON CITY TOURISM SITES REOPEN

BACOLOD CITY , Philippines — Tourist sites in Canlaon City in Negros Oriental have reopened for visitors, more than a month after they were closed due to the phreatic eruption of Kanlaon Volcano.

Mayor Jose Chubasco Cardenas said in an executive order that the reopening of tourism sites is essential for economic recovery and the livelihood of local communities.

Cardenas said comprehensive assessments have determined that conditions have significantly improved and the risks mitigated to an acceptable level.

Alert Level 2 remains in effect at Kanlaon Volcano, although the number of volcanic quakes and sulfur dioxide gas emission dropped yesterday.

In reopening the tourism sites, Cardenas reminded tourism operators and visitors to adhere to updated safety guidelines, including restricted access to hazardous zones and compliance with evacuation procedures.
