HILTON HOTEL IN PADDINGTON EVACUATED AND ROAD CLOSED AFTER LAUNDRY FIRE

Around forty firefighters are tackling a fire that has broken out in the laundry room at the Hilton hotel in Paddington.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) was scrambled to the Hilton London Paddington in Praed Street at 1.20pm, and was still tackling the blaze around 3.30pm.

Praed Street was closed to traffic between Spring Street and London Street, and the fire brigade urged people to avoid the area.

LFB said the laundry room, which is on the fourth floor of the six-floor building, was alight.

“One of the brigade’s 32m ladders has been deployed to the scene, and used as an observation tower,” said an LFB spokesperson.

“Crews have also placed smoke blockers in the building to limit the spread of smoke.

“Traffic in the area is likely to be impacted as crews respond.”

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Paramedics were also at the scene on Thursday afternoon, but it was not immediately clear whether anyone was injured.

The ambulance service has been approached for more information.
