HINOBA-AN, NEGROS OCCIDENTAL TEEMS WITH NATURE, HISTORY, ADVENTURE FOR A FUN SUMMER TRIP

If you like nature, history, art, and food, there's no other place to be but the coastal town of Hinoba-an in Negros Occidental this summer.

Aileen Pedreso of GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas showed us why on "24 Oras," Wednesday, along with several Kapuso stars.

Get up close with nature

A four-hour drive from Bacolod City, Hinoba-an is known for its nature attractions, one of which is the Obong Cave.

The cave is as huge as a gymnasium and is a favorite spot of adventurers for its fish-like shape and rich history. More than a tourist location, the cave was once the headquarters of the Americans during World War II.

Eleven out of 13 barangays in Hinoba-an are also coastal. Teeming with idyllic beaches, the town is the perfect destination for beach bums.

Tuna capital

Seafood lovers will also have their fill at Hinoba-an—it wouldn't be the tuna capital of Negros Occidental for nothing.

Kapuso star Katrina Halili and Sparkle actor Radson Flores led the way to show viewers how grilling tuna is done.

"Sulit 'yung init at paso kasi nag-gi-grill ka na rin eh," Radson said.

["The heat and burn were worth it because you're already grilling anyway."]

"Bakit marami kami nito dito? [Why do we have a lot of tuna?] It's because they're said to be some sort of migratory fish so nagta-travel sila, daan dito sa [they travel here in' Hinoba-an papuntang [towards] General Santos," said Win Sapian, an executive assistant at the Office of the Mayor.

Weaving community

Hinoba-an also prides itself for its weaving community led by the town's women. Made with love, their products like woven wallets, bags, and sandals are sold in neighboring cities and other parts of the country.

While the weaving process may look complex, all it takes is practice.

Sparkle artists Mikee Quintos and Royce Cabrera got crafty as they tried their hand at weaving.

"Huwag naman tayo laging nasa cellphone lang [let's not be on our phones all the time]," said Quintos. "It's also a healthier habit or hobby."
