MAJORCA IS FED UP WITH MASS TOURISM

Thousands of people took to the streets on the Spanish island of Majorca on Saturday to protest against increasing mass tourism on their island.

On Thursday, four people died in Majorca when a terrace of a new rooftop bar of a restaurant in Playa de Palma collapsed. For residents of the island, this was a signal to take to the streets in protest.

According to island residents, mass tourism is leading to a housing shortage for its own residents and the destruction of nature. The activists consisted of families with children, students and pensioners and were supported by numerous civic initiatives.
