PEOPLE MINDBLOWN BY SCALE OF GLASTONBURY FESTIVAL – IT'S MUCH BIGGER THAN YOU THINK

The sun is shining, flags are flying and the wellies are being lined up - along with some of the biggest names in music preparing to take to the stage, it can only mean it's Glastonbury weekend.

Thousands of people will be flocking to Somerset to experience the five-day music festival that has been inspiring up and coming artists for decades. This year the likes of Coldplay, Dua Lipa and Shania Twain are performing at the weekend-long event - and excitment levels are rising rapidly.

But, for those who've never been lucky enough to attend the massive celebration of music, it's hard to understand just how big the festival is. To help people get their heads around it, music fans have been taking to TikTok to explain just how massive the scale of the event actually is.

Simon Doherty shared an aerial view of the site, and said the size of the festival is "wild". In the clip, he said: "The sheer scale of Glastonbury is absolutely ridiculous; 220,000 people - that's the size of a large town."

While it's tough to measure exactly how big the site is, the main festival area is estimated to be anywhere between 900 acres and 1,100 acres. This works out as being the size of more than 500 full-size football pitches.

When people arrive, they'll find there are more than 100 stages, lots of toilets and over 100 bars. Music lovers also have a choice of eating from around 500 food stalls.

Many people are reported to compare the site to a "small city" when they visit, as it really does blow people's minds when they see it for the first time. For those who haven't had the chance to attend, you can use this website to see how the size of the main festival site compares to where you live.

Simply search for a village, town or city and the website will show you how the size of the areas compare by overlaying an outline of the festival site on top of your chosen location. The results will probably leave you totally gobsmacked.

Since Simon shared the explainer video on social media, it's been liked hundreds of times, and people have been talking about how shocked they are by the sheer size of the festival.

Though the event has been a key date in people's calenders for over 50 years, it seems as though some people have never truly understood just what goes into organising the huge event.

One person said: "I don't think people truly appreciate the logistics behind it." Another wrote: "My town has nearly 400,000 people. This is legit more than half of my town's population."

A third replied: "Glasto is like a city!" Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: "How are you meant to get around it all like?"
