Sadly, these romantic daydreams are even further from reality than they once were (unless you happen to have won the lottery). The rental markets in these coveted cities have skyrocketed in recent years, contributing to cost-of-living crises breaking out across the globe. To calculate just how expensive it is to rent in each city, Numbeo came up with the Cost of Rent Index. According to their website, "This index estimates the prices of renting apartments in a city compared to New York City. If the Rent Index is 80, it suggests that the average rental prices in that city are approximately 20% lower than those in New York City." For reference, the Point2 real estate agency estimates that an average NYC apartment goes for US $4,641 per month. In this gallery, you'll find the 30 cities that score highest on the Rent Index. Click through for a tour of the most eye-wateringly expensive rental markets in the world and find out what they have to offer!

Largest known object of its kind spotted in distant cosmos

For as long as humans have walked the Earth, the great endless sky and the countless stars that fill it have left us in a state of awe-inspired wonderment. Similarly, the study and exploration of space have been a priority for humankind for millennia. From the ancient Assyrians and Greeks, to the greatest minds of the Renaissance, and up to the billionaire space explorers of the 21st century, incredible amounts of time and effort have gone into better understanding our celestial surroundings. And our quest has just begun. Now in a groundbreaking discovery, astronomers have detected a gigantic radio jet in the far reaches of the universe, measuring twice the width of our Milky Way galaxy. This ancient phenomenon originated when the universe was less than 10% of its current 13.8-billion-year age, according to recent research. Anniek Gloudemans, the study’s lead author and a postdoctoral research fellow at the National Science Foundation’s NOIRLab, said, “This is the largest radio jet seen thus far in the early universe.” The discovery was made possible through the use of two state-of-the-art radio telescopes, which revealed the immense double-lobed jet stretching at least 200,000 light-years. This finding is shedding light on the formative period of the cosmos, helping scientists understand when the first jets emerged and how they influenced galaxy formation. Despite all of the great strides that have been made to understand the great beyond, it's estimated that 95% of the universe is still undiscovered. Click through the following gallery to learn about some of the greatest discoveries of astronomy and our universe.

Organic architecture: closing the gap between man and nature

We've come a long way from the cave as creatures who love the comfort of shelter. But as our technological advances propel us to a world where nature is continuously left behind, we are starting to neglect so much of the naturally-occurring beauty around us, which can negatively impact the way we treat the environment and the way we relate to it. That's why the concept of organic architecture is taking precedence among some of the world's leading designers of today. The term was coined by Frank Lloyd Wright, and is often used to describe buildings whose shape or function mimics nature. But it's more than that—organic architecture respects the properties of the surrounding natural materials while finding a harmonious way of incorporating function into the building site. It seeks to establish a way of living, as opposed to just making a pretty building. Wright started incorporating the organic philosophy into his own architecture in the early 1900s and did with it what he could at the time, which you'll soon see in this gallery. But you'll also see how far more modern architects have been able to take it. Intrigued? Then click through to take a took.
