For American parents with children, summer is the most convenient time to take a trip abroad, when kids are done their school year and adults take annual leave from work. To get the best value for their money, many families choose all-inclusive resorts for their extensive lists of amenities that are factored into the price of a stay.  

There are plenty of all-inclusive resorts throughout Europe, and many are now catering to families by providing more spacious accommodations and kid/teen-specific clubs while providing parents with activities and entertainment of their own. Here are eight of the best all-inclusive resorts for families in Europe.

1. Leonardo Laura Beach & Splash Resort, Cyprus

  • Price (one night stay): $265

The four-star Leonardo Laura Beach Splash Resort is a coastal resort on the outskirts of Paphos, near ancient ruins of tombs, fortresses, theaters and villas at Paphos Archaeological Park. Paradise for water-loving families, the resort’s waterpark has six pools and seven slides. On site is a a hair salon, gym, sauna steam room and spa with a diverse menu of massages and treatments. Five restaurants and five bars serve a variety of menus throughout the day, including two main buffet restaurants: one Italian and the other an American Burger House.

2. Grand Palladium White Island Resort & Spa, Spain

The Palladium Hotel Groups operate 5-star paradise resorts in the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe. The Grand Palladium White Island Resort & Spa might be near the infamous party town of Ibiza, but it’s a world away from that nightlife scene for families. All-inclusive packages pamper adults and have loads of spaces just for kids. The beach location puts you near activities like scuba diving, water skiing and kayaking and four outdoor pools can be found on the resort grounds. 3. Ikos Oceania, Greece

Situated on Greece’s Halkidiki peninsula, the Ikos Oceania is “where nature meets understated opulence.” This eco-certified five-star hotel is 2.1 km from Dionisiou Beach and 13 km from the town of Nea Potide, but it has plenty on site to easily satisfy any family. The spacious, stylish guest rooms and suites are nestled among the 15 acres of well-kept gardens and provide spectacular sea views with Mount Olympus in the background. The resort has a few à la carte restaurants in addition to the Flavors international buffet restaurant. Six excellent bars are available for guests relaxing indoors or strolling through the magnificent gardens.

4. Naturhotel Forsthofgut, Austria

Let’s head northeast to Austria, to a year-round resort that still shows its former farmhouse roots. The four restaurants provide only organic food and are segregated into child-friendly and child-free sections. The several family apartments contain bunk beds in separate children’s rooms, while Garden Lofts include a balcony and hot tub, and many alternatives offer lake and mountain views. Beyond the grounds, guests are given a backpack upon arrival to their rooms and encouraged to access Alpine woods with free mountain railway excursions in the summer; the slopes and private toboggan run in the winter. As Condé Nast Traveller notes, the resort is dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole family.

5. Hillside Beach Club, Turkey

Talk about relaxing! This Turkish retreat is artfully disguised as a secluded cove and surrounded by pine trees and green mountains, has an adult-only ‘Silent Beach’ with a treehouse spa that specializes in de-stressing, Balinese massages and Turkish baths for those who want to truly disconnect or reconnect. For the kids, there’s a club for those aged 4-12 that has DJ and piano workshops, robot- or film-making, tennis lessons, outdoor cinema and evening shows, windsurfing, diving and wakeboarding session plus a baby park and a child-friendly beach.  

6. Tivoli Alvor Algarve Resort, Portugal

Reopening this year after a refurbishment in the spring, the Tivoli Alvor is spread over nearly 28 acres and has 491 guest rooms. Although its “Destination Inclusive” package includes off-the-beaten-path eco/local experiences like “Sacred Mountain” treks, coffee plantation tastings and rum distillery visits, the Kidsdom Club (for children aged five to ten) is likewise environmentally conscious (and includes a splash pad), while older youngsters are amused with sports, video games and movie nights, according to Condé Nast Traveller. This beach-side resorts includes a wide range of international restaurants and bars, as well as the typical array of gorgeous spas and swimming-pools.

8. Girandella Valamar Collection Resort, Croatia
